Is retail dying or booming? Last January, we were invited at Crea Digital Day in Geneva to share our thoughts about a retail industry that is facing both a digital and a responsible transformation.
What resonated most with the audience were examples of sustainable models that are emerging and becoming mainstream thanks to online retail. To name a few:
The fast-growing second hand market with platform such as Thredup, Selency or Vinted.
The refurbishing industry with success stories such as BackMarket
The Recommerce trend: more and more brands are now launching a “second-life” business & experience, following recommerce leader Patagonia, with their dedicated platform WornWear
Rent vs Own services are allowing consumers to enjoy a vast choice of clothing or equipment without over-consuming, nor over-spending. Think Rent-The Runway for instance.
Subscriptions models such as The Honest Company allow customers and brands to join forces and commit to longer term investments to research and reduce their environmental footprint.
